Editorial standards

How we report, attribute and correct.

The rules every story on 9to5AI follows. If we fall short of them, tell us — and we’ll say so publicly.

On this page

01Sourcing

We link primary sources: release notes, documentation, filings, papers and the product itself. When we rely on a person, we say who they are and how they know.

We grant anonymity only when a source would face real harm, and we say why in the story. Anonymous claims are corroborated before publication.

02How a story is made

Every story starts from primary sources, which are linked at the end of it. We use software tools, including AI models, to help find, compare and organise that material and to draft. Before publication, each fact, figure, date and quote is checked against the linked source, and the editor named on the story is responsible for what it says.

Tools don’t decide what we cover or what we conclude, and nothing is published unchecked.

03Attribution and third-party results

9to5AI reports, explains and analyses developments in AI and the technology around it. We don’t run our own product tests or benchmarks, and we don’t claim to have tested anything we haven’t.

Results from benchmarks, research and evaluations are credited to whoever produced them, with the date and a link. Company claims are labelled as claims, and we keep verified facts, reported results and our own interpretation clearly apart. How we report benchmarks.

04Updates

When a story changes materially — new facts, new figures, a changed conclusion — we add a timestamped note at the top and update the “Updated” time. Typo fixes and formatting changes don’t get a note and don’t change the date.

05Corrections

Errors of fact are corrected as soon as we confirm them, with a note at the end of the story saying what was wrong. Significant corrections are also listed on our corrections page.

Write to corrections@9to5ai.tech; we usually fix errors the same day.

06Headlines

Headlines say what happened. Search headlines lead with the subject; social headlines are specific and never withhold the point to earn a click.

07Independence & conflicts

No company can pay for coverage, placement or a ranking. Staff disclose investments and relationships on their byline pages, and don’t cover companies they hold stakes in.

08Embargoes

We honour embargoes we agree to in advance. We don’t trade favourable coverage for access, and we don’t agree to show copy to the companies we cover.
